Doris Olivia Everett, age 88, of Clayton, DE, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, September 19, 2017.
Mrs. Everett was born on June 22, 1929 in Smyrna Landing, the daughter of the late William and Helen Nowland.
She was a graduate of John Bassett Moore High School of Smyrna and she worked at Rothwell’s Granary for 25 years.
Doris enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and traveling with her sisters. Her favorite bird was the cardinal and her home was full of cardinal décor.
She was a selfless woman whose family was her world. She touched the lives of her family in so many ways, as well as others who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Howard Nowland, Ruth Downes, Eleanor Davis, and Ronald Nowland.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Allen; her three sons all of Clayton, Dale R. Everett, Gary A. Everett and his wife Pam, and Michael L. Everett and his wife Donella; her grandchildren, Bret A. Everett and his wife Heather, Amanda Burris and her husband Danny, Gary A. Everett, Jr., Michael Lee Everett, Jr., Cody N. Everett, Olivia D. Everett, and Anthony J. Berryman; her great grandchildren, Andrew, Aubrey, Jimmy, and Colton; her sister, Allene Poore of Smyrna; and her sister-in-law, Jean Nowland of Smyrna. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 25, 2017 at 11 am in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna. Services will begin at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Smyrna.
