Francis John McDonald, “Frank” of Smyrna, Delaware, passed away at home on Friday, February 2, 2018.
Frank was born on December 24, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of the late Eugene Martin McDonald and Grace (Mooney) McDonald.
He served his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps. After his military service, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Pace University, in New York, New York. He then went on to work in the construction industry, specializing in concrete forming equipment. He served in a variety of roles to include drafting, sales, engineering, and executive management.
Frank enjoyed fishing outings with his brothers and sons and was a member of Ancient Order of Hibernians, and while a resident of Allendale, NJ was a member of the Holiday Observers for 25 years. He also enjoyed building model ships. He loved anything of a historical or nautical nature.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Robert McDonald, and his sister Eileen (McDonald) Yoquinto.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rosemarie (Finnerty) McDonald; his children, Kara Therese Gallagher and her husband Matthew, Deborah Grace Murray and her husband Craig, and Marc Francis McDonald. His grandchildren Shane, Catie, and Collin Gallagher; and Claire and Kieran Murray; and his siblings, Adele (McDonald) Brangan, Eugene ‘Dan’ McDonald, James McDonald, Thomas McDonald, and Geraldine McDonald.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 from 4 to 6 pm in Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 6 pm.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10am at St. Genevieve’s Church located at 200 Monmouth Road, Elizabeth, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, or Catholic Charities.
