Robert A. Potts, “Pottsy,” age 80, of Smyrna, Delaware, lost his battle with cancer peacefully at home on September 9, 2017 with his wife of 56 years, Virginia and his adored daughter, Jari Jo Sadlowski, holding his hands.

Formerly from Michigan, the Potts family moved to Delaware in 1961 and settled in Stanton for 30 years before moving to Smyrna in 1991. Smyrna was home and he loved this town.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Sophie and Edward Potts; and his brothers, Eddie and Danny Potts.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginny” Potts; daughter, Jari Jo Sadlowski (Edward); grandsons, Casey Sadlowski (Sarah), Kellen Sadlowski, and Trace Sadlowski (Lauren); great grandchildren, Gage, Emery, Jaycee Jo, Cassie and Maddie Rose Sadlowski; and his sisters, Mira Waack, Kathleen Pressey and Anna Bennett.

Mr. Potts worked for Electric Hose and Rubber, Bear Concrete, and retired as a Teamster at Certified Concrete.

Pottsy was a United States Navy Veteran and a proud member of the American Legion Family.

Services will be private. He wanted to be remembered as he was when he was in good health.

Special thanks to Delaware Hospice, his special nurse, Marianne Guest, Dr. John Fink, and the David C. Harrison American Legion Post 14 Family in Smyrna.

Contributions in his name would be appreciated to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19904 or to the American Legion David C. Harrison Post 14, 107 W. Glenwood Ave., Smyrna, DE 19977.
