Human Composting

Faries Funeral Home is now offering human composting.  This process uses the principles of nature to transform our loved ones into soil.  Much like the natural cycle that occurs on the forest floor, organic material along with the body decomposes and becomes topsoil.

Soon after someone dies, we lay your loved one in a vessel surrounded by wood chips, alfalfa and straw and the natural breakdown process begins via normal microbial activity.  After several weeks of breakdown on the molecular level, nutriet-dense soil is formed.  The soil can then be returned to the family, used to enrich forest land, or gardens.

This alternative method of disposition is available now and soon we will be able to offer this service directly to the public here in Delaware.  We have plans to install this new system as a part of our facilities and offerings without the need to ship out.  Howver, human composting is available through us now.

Please call us for details or schedule an advanced prearrangement appointment for human composting.
