Augustina A. Martey, aka Grandma, Auntie Augusta and Tina Gold, age 71, of Smyrna, Delaware, formerly of Accra, Ghana, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 9, 2018.
Mrs. Martey was born on April 14, 1946 in Accra, Ghana, the daughter of the late Charles Lamptey and Elizabeth Ankrah.
She graduated from St. Louis College in Ghana with a degree in Education. After graduation, she taught elementary school for many years eventually becoming a very well renowned school Principal in Accra, Ghana for almost twenty years.
Auntie Augusta was a devout member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Accra, Ghana where she held many positions including serving as a member of the parish council for many years. She was a very active member of the Knights of St. John’s and was also a staunch member of the choir. She loved singing and reading the bible at church. She was known as a mother figure to the entire congregation.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, S.O. Martey; and some siblings.
She is survived by her children, Mrs. Grace Class-Peters of Smyrna, Delaware, Mr. Sam Martey of Winchester, Virginia, Mrs. Gloria Martey-Ikhimiukor of Rancho Cucamonga, California, and Ms. Toria of Winchester, Virginia; and eleven grandchildren. She is also survived by her in-laws, Rev. Dr. George Class-Peters, Mrs. Lawrencia Martey, and Dr. Eugene Ikhimiukor; and her siblings, Ms. Margaret Hanson-Sackey, Mr. Emmanuel Lamptey, and Ms. Philomena Quaye.
A viewing will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 from 5 pm to 8 pm and again on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 8 am to 10 am in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna, Delaware.
Mass of Christian Burial will held at 11 am on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at St. Polycarp Catholic Parish, located at 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna, Delaware.
Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Dover, Delaware.
Following the burial services, all those in attendance are welcome to join the family for a repast at the Delaware State Troopers Association Hall, located at 6349 North Dupont Highway, Cheswold, Delaware.
