Charles “Chuck” Chase, long time resident of Clayton, Delaware, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018. He was 69.
He was born on January 10, 1949, in Dover, Delaware, the son of the late James and Gertie (Fretz) Chase.
Chuck was a long time custodian in the Smyrna School District, retiring as Chief Custodian in 2011. He was a proud member of the Clayton Fire Company, and even after he stepped down from active duty, he saved his own home from a chimney fire.
Chuck was a huge practical joker and in turn, was the recipient of numerous jokes as well. You knew he was fond of you if he teased you. He was also a fan of competition. He never turned down a game, whether it be pool, horseshoes or cards and he enjoyed these games even more if there was a friendly wager in place.
More than anything else, Chuck had an enormous heart. He never hesitated to help someone who needed it.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Juana; his children, Freddie Chase and Lisa (Chase) Ginn; his stepchildren, L.D. Kinder and wife, Leah, and Kristal Kinder-Bartlett and husband, James; his sister, Louise (Chase) Tolliver; his brothers, James Chase, and wife, Marie, and Richard Chase, and wife, Edie; and 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. And his “babies” Heidi and Rosie, his dachshunds, and Morris and Fluffy, his cats.
A viewing will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 11am to 1pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 1pm. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Chuck’s memory to Clayton Fire Company.
