Deborah Ann McKinney, age 64, of Clayton, Delaware, departed from this life on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Crozer Chester Medical Center in Pennsylvania.

Deborah was born on August 6, 1954 in Wilmington, Delaware, the daughter of the late Carol Jones, Sr., and Mary Jones.

Deborah grew up in New Castle County Delaware and graduated from William Penn High School. She resided in Kent County Delaware for the last 28 years of her life. Deborah retired from the State of Delaware after serving a lengthy career in the administrative profession. She worked in several state offices during her career, but most recently worked for the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna, Delaware. In her earlier working years, she was employed with the Bank of Delaware and H&R Block as a tax preparer, which she continued to do in a private capacity for decades.

Deborah was an avid animal lover and enjoyed her pet cats. She was an extremely talented painter of ceramic arts. She enjoyed fictional and reality based crime television dramas.

Deborah is survived by her daughter, Samantha A. Hurd (Ryan); her son, Jay W. McKinney, Jr.; and two granddaughters, Skye D. McKinney and Andrea R. Hurd. She is also survived by her brothers, Carol Jones, Jr., Jack Jones (Drema); a sister, Frances Jones; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her eldest sister, Victoria Swire.

A visitation will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019 from 6 to 7pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna. Memorial services will begin at 7pm.

The family would especially like to thank the remarkable professionals at the Crozer Chester Medical Center Burn Unit for their excellent work and loving care of Deborah, the Clayton Volunteer Fire Company and Citizens Hose Company, the Clayton Police Department and the Smyrna Police Department for their courageous service and bravery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to the Clayton Volunteer Fire Company.
