James “Richard” Blevins, age 80, of Smyrna, Delaware passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at his home.
He was born November 11, 1938 in Delaware and lived in the Smyrna area his entire life. He always felt that the November 11th Veterans Day Holiday was in his honor.
He had a long-time business in Smyrna, Blevins, Inc., which he started in 1972.
He had been a member of the Masonic Harmony Lodge #13 since April of 1983 and was immensely proud of that. He was an avid boater and deep-sea fisherman. His son, Jeff, daughter, Donna, son by marriage, Shaun, as well as his wife, Linda all caught their first tuna on one of his boats. He taught his children to water-ski when they were 6.
He also loved golfing and hunting (but not deer). He trained labs for field trials for several years and also inspected horses at racetracks prior to races for a time.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Kurry; daughter, Donna Schwartz and her husband Lewis; son Jeff and his wife Michelle; son by marriage, Shaun Kurry and his wife Jaime; 7 grandchildren, Mandy Sawyer, John Blevins, Jason Blevins, Ashley Joiner, Taylor Rhoades, and Zachary and Caitlyn Kurry; and 8 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 from 10am to 12pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 12pm and burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Smyrna.
