John Peter Melnick, age 76, of Clayton, Delaware passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on May 19, 1942, in Bronx, New York, the son of the late John P. and Rosemary (Dauner) Melnick.
John enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1960 and served his country with honor as a Communications Technician.
Mr. Melnick retired from the United States Postal Service after a long career. After retirement he spent his days on his farm surrounded by his horses, friends, and family and watching NASCAR races on the weekends. He spent many afternoons with his granddaughter Elle while she practiced Taekwondo, swam at the YMCA and Smyrna pool or learned Chinese.
John is survived by his loving wife Donna, his daughter Kimberly Chick and her husband Frank of Dover, Delaware and his stepson James Green of Camden, Delaware.
He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Elle, Anna and Tripp Chick; his brother, Walter Melnick and his wife Jeannie and their two sons, Kurtis and Gregory of New York; his best friend, Mickey Lehman and his wife Linda of Felton, Delaware; along with many extended family members.
A viewing will be held on Monday, June 25, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 11:30 am at St. Polycarp Roman Catholic Church, located at 55 Ransom Lane in Smyrna.
Burial with military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware.
