Kathryn “Kay” Wilson, 82

Kathryn Wilson, of Smyrna, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018.

Kathryn was born in Harrington, DE on July 21, 1935, daughter of the late Arthur and Elsie (Bailey) Callaway. She was a graduate of Harrington High School Class of 1953.

Kay was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Robert “Bob” Wilson; her daughter, Tracey Wilson; her son, Kenneth Wilson; her three brothers, Arthur, William and Franklin Callaway and three sisters, Marguerite Cooke, Evelyn LeCates, Marie Zulkowski and Ruth Shaner.  Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Robyn McQuaide (David), of Dover, 3 grandchildren, Joshua, Ryan and Riley; step-daughter Linda Tedeschi; step-son Billy Wilson; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Kathryn worked at the Dinner Bell Inn where she met and eventually married Robert in March 1963 in Dover, DE.  They lived in Milford, CT for a time where Bob worked for Sikorsky Aircraft.  They then lived in Tripoli, Libya for a few years before landing in Pittsburgh, PA.  In 1988, they retired to Garrisons Lake Golf Course in Smyrna, DE to play golf and be close to Kay’s beloved family.

After the loss of her daughter, Tracey, in 1974, Kay’s mission in life became to put an end to childhood leukemia.  While in Pittsburgh, Kay founded and ran for many years the infamous Wilson Memorial Leukemia Benefit and golf tournament.  She gathered many of Pittsburgh’s sports stars together and was able to raise a significant amount of money to put an end to the terrible disease.

Kay worked for many years at Guest Relations for Kent General Hospital then at Eden Hill Medical Center.  She loved her work!  Everyone knew her as the helpful red-haired lady who was so impeccably dressed.  She was a very proud and supportive grandmother.  Kay was also an avid dancer who would take every opportunity to dance to the oldies and loved spending time with her beach girlfriends.

The family would like to thank Delaware Hospice for its support during this difficult time.

A funeral is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Faries Funeral Home in Smyrna, located at 29 South Main Street.  Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m.  Following the service, interment will be held at the Delaware Veteran’s Cemetery in Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Leukemia Society.
