Linda Joyce Chapman, age 69, of Smyrna, Delaware passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, December 20, 2018.
She was born on January 13, 1949 in Chestertown, Maryland, the daughter of the late Thomas Mercer and Mary Patrick.
Linda was a loving homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved walks along the beach, arts and crafts, cooking for her family and friends (especially her chicken and dumplings and soup), reading her books, and her music. She was also fond of long car rides to Rock Hall and to West Virginia.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Richard James Chapman, Sr.; two sons, Teddy Chapman and Richard Chapman, Jr.; and her brother, Tommy Mercer.
Linda is survived by her three daughters, Pamela Pearce (John) of Smyrna, Tina Chapman of Kenton, and Kimberly Smith of Dover; her son, Steven Chapman (Shanike) of Dover; 9 grandchildren, Andy, Milynda, John Richard, Brittany, Victoria, William, Alex, Richard, and Kyla; her great grandson, Braiden; her siblings, Joan Bell, Bobby Patrick, and Johnny, Mike and Billy Mercer; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Linda is also survived by her companion, Tom Barnett.
The family would like to offer a special thank-you to Cindy Martin, Betty Burris, Pastor Rich Walton, Kelly Mannering, and the staff of Delaware Hospice for their care and support.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 3pm to 5pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 5pm. Burial will be private.
