Mary Alice Walls Van Pelt of Clayton, DE passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE.
She was 98.
Mrs. Van Pelt was born November 24, 1919 in Dover, DE, the daughter of the late Charles W. Schaffer and Mary Jane (Williams) Schaffer.
She was a loving homemaker who enjoyed her family and working in the yard and her flower garden. Alice loved to read and watch Western movies. She was good cook and took great pride in raising and caring for her family.
She was a life member of the Clayton Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Carroll Frank Van Pelt.
She is survived by her two sons, James Walls and his wife Sharon of Smyrna, DE, and Donald Van Pelt and his wife Molly of Smyrna, DE; two daughters, Jodie Burchard of Dover, DE, and Brenda Thomas of Clayton, DE; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson. She is also survived by three sister-in-laws, Marie Wheatley, Barbara Davis, and Nancy Teat; and many other beloved family members.
Graveside services will be privately held at Sharon Hills Memorial Park in Dover, DE.
