Phyllis Ann McNatt, age 77, of Laurel, Delaware, formerly of Smyrna, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 6, 2019.
Mrs. McNatt was born on December 29, 1941 in Chester, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Wilson and Hilda Gardner.
She grew up in Flemings Landing, and graduated from John Bassett Moore High School in 1959. Shortly after graduation, she married the love of her life , Stephen McNatt. She studied cosmetology and worked as a beautician in Smyrna, but spent most of her life as a homemaker. After her husband retired, they enjoyed split residency between Delaware and Florida.
Phyllis enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and in her later years, having cockatiels as pets. She was also a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Post 8801. She attended Kenton United Methodist Church, and most recently, Crossroad Community Church in Georgetown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Stephen McNatt.
She is survived by her two children, Steven McNatt of Palm Bay, Florida, and Donna Messick and her husband, Burt of Laurel; her two grandchildren, Megan McNatt of Reddick, Florida, and Samantha Messick of Laurel; her three siblings, Evelyn Shahan of Greenwood, MaryLou Thompson of Laurel, and Wilson “Ted” Gardner, Jr. (Kathleen) of Clayton, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 from 4 to 6pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 6pm. Burial will be private.
