Roy D. Collier “Sonny,” age 83, of Smyrna, Delaware, went peacefully to his heavenly home on October 15, 2018.
He was born on February 4, 1935 in Silura, Alabama.
Mr. Collier served his country with Honor for over 25 years in the U.S. Army and National Guard. He retired as an E-7 Sergeant, First Class.
He worked for many years, retiring from Boeing Helicopters from which he received many achievement awards. Roy earned several achievement awards throughout his military and work career.
He was a pastor of Church of God of Smyrna and was currently a devoted member of Faith Life Ministries of Dover. Roy enjoyed being a minister, preaching, and helping anyone. He loved reading his bible, praying with family and friends, and listening to Christian music. He also enjoyed watching the War, History, and game show channels on TV, old movies, and the Jimmy Swaggert program.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ann Collier; and his sister, Edna Timmons.
Roy is survived by his loving and caring wife of 10 years, Genevieve V. Collier; his son, Michael Collier (Billie Jo); step-daughter, Tina Coleman (Earl); 7 grandchildren, Mikey Collier, Tiffany Ballinger, Meghan Coleman, Jodie Wood, John Knotts, Paul Graham, and Stephanie Graham; 7 great grandchildren; 2 nieces; and many special friends and family who all loved him.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 11 am to 12 pm at the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna, where services will begin at 12 pm. Burial with honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear.
