William Donald Clark Sr., 80, born 02/08/1938 passed away peacefully in his family home on 03/22/2018 in the company of his loving wife, Helen Clark, and daughter Karen Rider. “Clark” spent his youth and school years in Media, PA. He was a Corporal in the United States Marine from 1956 to 1961, serving in the 4.2 mortars and later as a radio operator, completing a Mediterranean Cruise to Turkey, Italy, Gibraltar, and Greece during his service. He married his soul mate and angel, Helen Schoen, in 1961. From 1966 to 1986 he served the Delaware State Police, retiring as a Captain at Headquarters in Dover. Post-retirement, he was an avid fisherman, outdoor writer, hunting guide, crabber, woodworker, and teacher to his 7 grandchildren.
Bill Sr. is preceded in death by his father Edward Burke Clark and mother Helen Mae MacDonald.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen Schoen Clark; daughters Karen Clark-Rider (Mickey), Sharon Clark-Belken (Chris), Lorelei Clark-Sanford (Brian), son William Clark Jr. (Emily); grandchildren Ryan, Daniel, Jessica, Kyle, Matthew, Jocelyn andMyles; great-grandchildren Cameron, Jonathan, Gabriel, and Carson; brother Edward Clark of Austin, PA.; sisters Florence “Flossie” Clark Conklin of Rock Hall, MD and Helen May “Susie” Clark Oliver and a host of nephews, nieces and special friend close to his heart.
Special thanks to nurse Katie Ann Lynch at Delaware Hospice who guided his journey in his final months of life as well as our neighbors: Ron and Karen Kennedy, Dirk and Melissa Yoder, Henry Miller for your continuous support, and those friends who frequently visited to lift his spirit.
A private Veteran’s ceremony will be held with his wife and children per his wishes. A celebration of life will be coordinated at a future date. Donations in lieu of flowers should be sent to The Delaware State Police Museum in Dover or Delaware Hospice.
