Alice Elizabeth (Niewinski) Thorn, age 81, of Townsend, Delaware, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. She passed away at home surrounded by her family.

Alice was born on July 9, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Anthony Stanaslaus Niewinski and Anna Elizabeth (Connelley) Niewinski.

Alice spent many years as a homemaker and mother raising her children. She then attended Nursing School, graduating with her LPN in 1980. She spent many years as a Nurse, caring for others until she retired from the State of Delaware.

Alice was a devout Catholic and attended St. Joseph Parish in Middletown, Delaware.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and was extremely talented at cake baking and decorating. She was proud to have had the opportunity to bake and decorate her daughter’s wedding cake.  Alice also enjoyed her family picnics and barbeques. Most of all, Alice cherished her special relationships and times spent with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and “The Cuzins.”

Alice is survived by her children, Alice Ramey and her husband Anthony of Townsend, Delaware, Elizabeth Starkey and her husband David of Massey, Maryland, Joe Thorn and his wife Denise of Smyrna, Delaware, and Phil Thorn and his wife Kristi, also of Smyrna; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Becky, David, Danny, Wayne, and Makayla; and her great grandchildren, Ava, Anthony, Kale, MacKenzie, Christian, Thorn, Danny. She is also survived by her special cousins, Wanda, Jasper (deceased), John, Phillip (deceased), Jimmy, Paul, Gary, Phyllis, and Rocky, as well as their family.

A visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am on Monday, July 2, 2018 at St. Joseph Parish, located at 371 E. Main Street, Middletown, Delaware. A Memorial Mass will begin at 11 am. Burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier (Old Bohemia) Cemetery in Warwick, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Joseph Parish Church.
