Denise Jo Blevins passed away unexpectedly on September 3, 2019 at the age of 65 at her home in Townsend, Delaware.

Denise is survived by her siblings, sister Teresa Cochran and her husband Norman; brother Joseph Blevins and his wife Ada with 5 daughters, Eileen, Angie, Diane, Bobbie Jo (with her daughter Olivia), and Jamie with her son Aiden; and sister Barbara Eastburn and her husband Steven with whom she resided, along with their daughters, Alyssa, Mariah, Anna, Sarah, and Stephanie.

She is also survived by her step-sisters Lisa Beasley and Edna Biddle (husband Leonard) with their children and grandchildren; her step-brother Adam with his children and grandchildren; her Uncle Gus Casey with his children and grandchildren; and great-nephew Wade Beisner.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy Anne Blevins and Joe Reid Blevins; her stepmother Edna Irene Blevins; as well as maternal uncle Douglas Beisner; paternal aunt Maxine Blevins Perry; and paternal uncles Eugene, Billy and J. Donald Blevins.

Denise was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky on January 1, 1954 to Joe R. Blevins and Dorothy A. (Casey) Blevins. She graduated from Saint Elizabeth’s High School in 1971. She then entered the Catholic convent and taught at St. Elizabeth’s in Wilmington, DE. She later chose to leave the convent and pursued a job in management at Hewlett Packard in Avondale, PA. After attending church at the United Pentecostal Church, she chose to return to her passion for teaching at Kent Christian Academy in Dover, DE. After teaching, she enjoyed a career in home health care, assisting elderly patients with their personal needs, until her own debilitating strokes.

Denise was a devoted aunt to nieces Alyssa, Mariah, Anna, Sarah and Stephanie-babysitting, crafting and helping with Barb’s daughters as needed for many years.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Deborah Kirk, Denise’s primary care physician along with her staff; Case Manager, Tia; Speech therapist, Maria; and her faithful aides Denise, Judi and Donna-you all provided exceptional, loving, compassionate care that never went unnoticed. Barb’s husband Steven was her rock throughout the time Denise lived with them, frequently lending his culinary skills (much to Denise’s delight!) as well as assisting with all of the day-to-day activities that come with providing health care in the home. Denise knew Steven since he was 17, and he was an important part of her life.

A visitation is scheduled for 12pm on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna. Memorial services officiated by Pastor Steven Beardsley  from Newark United Pentecostal Church (where Denise was a member) will begin at 1pm. Interment will be private.

Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Home and Crematorium.
