Donald H. McGinty, Sr., age 71 of Greenwood, DE went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 28, 2018.
Mr. McGinty was born on November 25, 1946 in Chester, PA, the son of the late Edward and Eleanor McGinty.
He retired after 35 years in Law Enforcement. He was the former Chief of Police for the Smyrna Police Department, retiring in 1997. Chief McGinty went on to serve as the Chief of Police for the Laurel Police Department, retiring in 2005.
Donald enjoyed boating and fishing. He obtained his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying his plane.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Cheryl;
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Lynn Payton and her husband Jack of Hartly, DE; and his son, Donald H. McGinty, Jr. and his wife Jeanette of Viola, DE. He was a loving grandfather and great grandfather to nine grandchildren, Brittany, Seth, Caleb, Megan, Jared, Christi Grace, Jack Caden, Mandi, and Bristal; and five great grandchildren, Lydia, Clay, Skylar, Micah, and Savannah. He is also survived by his siblings, Elizabeth “Betty” VanHekle, and her husband Carl of Ocean City, MD, Edward McGinty, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Hudson, FL, and Sharon DeFrancisco also of Hudson, FL; his sister-in-law, Christine Laurelli and her husband Anthony of Greenwood, DE.
Services will be privately held.
