Jean D. (Parsons) Hoffman of Smyrna, Delaware passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware.
She was born on September 24, 1932 in Ogden, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Charles Parsons and Ruth E. (Houston) Parsons.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Johnson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Evelyn Stevens of Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania; two sons, John Staren, III of Claymont, Delaware and Allen Staren of Smyrna, Delaware; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; one half-sister, Nancy Marvel of North East, Maryland; and one half-brother, James McDowell of North East, Maryland.
She was employed over the years by Dry Goods, Kresege’s, Harvest House Cafeteria, Woolco, Brandywine Bakery, Wawa Store 801, and Bradywine Blvd. Laundry in Delaware, as well as Heritage Dairy Stores #13, Dry Goods, Mantua Metals, and Electric Mobility in Jew Jersey.
Her hobbies were crocheting, magnets, and salt and pepper shakers. She was a member of the Brandywine Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary since 1991.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 10am to 12pm in the Smyrna Wesleyan Church, located at 433 West Commerce Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 12pm. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Smyrna.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to either the Humane Society of America or to the American Cancer Society.
