Walter J. Wierzbicki, Sr., age 76, of Smyrna, Delaware, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 10, 2018.
Mr. Wierzbicki was born on May 28, 1942 in Wilmington, Delaware, the son of the late Vincent and Clara Wierzbicki.
A native of Delaware, Walter grew up in New Castle and attended St. Peters Catholic School, and then entered the armed services at the age of 17. While in the Navy, Walter completed his high school diploma and continued to serve his country with honor.
He retired after over 35 years of service as a Union Carpenter from Carpenters Local 626 of New Castle, Delaware.
Walter enjoyed being outdoors working in his garden, camping, fishing, and spending quality time around the campfire with family telling jokes. He loved traveling and going to new places in his RV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Eddie, Henry and Joey; his sisters, Mary, Helen, and Agnes; his step-son, Johnny; and his son-in-law, Jim.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Mildred; his son, Walt, Jr. (Kristine) of Smyrna, Delaware, two daughters, Bryna of Viola, Delaware, and Sarah (Michael) of Newburn, North Carolina. He is also survived by his step-children, Shirley (Chris) of Elkton, Maryland, Kasi of Townsend, Delaware, Mike (Connie) of New Castle, Delaware, Darlene (Jimmy) of New Castle, Delaware, Barbie of Newark, Delaware, Brenda (Curt) of New Castle, Delaware, and Will of New Castle Delaware; 15 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 9 am to 11:30 am in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 am. Burial with military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware.
